Honoring Christopher C. Smith and Garfield A. Wood
1240 Saint Clair River Drive, Algonac Michigan 48001

With a lot of help from regional media, the Antique & Clasic Boat Society, the Chris-Craft Commander Club & Website, and our friends at the Brass Bell. we have moved on through the engineering, planning and legislative cycles, have established a tax free status and are ready to officially launch Legends of Algonac and build a life size bronze memorial to Christopher Columbus Smith and Garfield A. Wood. They will be standing together again on the shore of the St. Clair River in Algonac where it all began....and now we need your help.

Ninety-nine years ago Chris and Gar initiated their first joint venture, at the National Motorboat Show in New York City, and now you are invited to attend the centennial celebration of that event, and the unveiling of their memorial July 4 2010.

Miss America X, the international Harmsworth Trophy winner driven by Gar Wood and fellow Algonancer Orlin Johnson, is again berthed at the huge factory and marina in Algonac, former home base for Chris-Craft Corporation.

Phase two of the Legends program involves an addition to the existing Historical Museum, to house marine artifacts, memorabilia being collected by heirs of Gar Wood and Chris Smith, and a Hall of Fame to show films and to present photo displays, books & industry studies.

The people of Algonac hope you will join them by making contributions to the Legends program and join in the celebration of the lives of their favorite sons.
